Brian, past president and chair of the board of the Licensing Executives Society (USA and Canada), Inc. (LES), is an internationally recognized authority in technology licensing agreements and commercial transactions involving intellectual property rights. He is a partner in the Washington DC office of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, and chair of its IP Transactions and Licensing Group. He counsels clients in the strategic development and utilization of intellectual property portfolios. He represents innovators before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including contested proceedings before the USPTO Patent Trial and Appeal Board; and in the resolution of contested matters before the federal courts and the International Trade Commission. 

His involvement in LES, a non-profit, non-partisan professional society devoted to education, standards development, and public policy in the business applications of intellectual property, spans several decades. He served on the LES Board of Directors 2007 – 2019; and continues to serve LES as senior vice president for public policy. He is a longstanding contributor to LES Education, including serving as chair of its education committee; and as an editor, author and faculty member of its curriculum based education programs. Brian has also served as an LES delegate to LES International, the global network of LES national and regional societies, and chaired several committees for LESI including education and external relations. In 2019, Brian received the LESI President’s Award for Exceptional Service.
